Another Ted Williams story: Charlie Silvera, Yankee catcher and pro scout visited my home in Santa Rosa, CA. I asked about Ted. Charlie had 7 World Series rings and one AB.  He proceed to tell me that when he was catching for the Tigers, the young Tiger pitcher could hear Ted "grinding" the bat in the "on deck" circle and was shaking when Williams step into the batter's box. The first pitch was "down the middle". Ball said the umpire. Charlie nudge the umpire Ed Rommel.

Rommel said "shut up Charlie, the fans came to watch Williams hit not you catch".
