If they pick the blocked punt up and run they win the game. Its your ball even if they recover it so you lose nothing by trying to pick it up and score.

Arkansas had the mo the entire second half but OSU hung on for the win. It was a good game. And yes I saw the same thing you did in Pryor. I know he said he was coming back but I will believe it when I see it. Really, your going to come back knowing you have to sit out the first 5 games of your Sr year? We shall see.
CM,
Spot on baby. No way does Pryor come back with no shot at the Heisman, sitting 5 games. The proverbial ice cubes chance in Hades. It's all a BS smokescreen just so his kids could play without making it a federal issue for the media. Who's gonna BBQ the admin and the kids if they are just following the rules and claiming to come back? Think the NCAA will tighten the loophole?

And the refs really screwed OSU twice...once on the safety and once on false start where the Hog DE was clearly in the neutral zone. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I did notice the accent of the ref...y'all.

@ Pronk...you're right...OSU played the whole second half trying to hold on rather than attack.

I was surprised by the false start call - I thought the Dline being in the neutral zone caused the offense to move. The safety could have went either way. If they have him stopped forward progress then Arkansas will argue but it was a tough call. If the RB was smart he would have went down once he started going backwards but nobody teaches that and goes against natural instinct.

Pryor is in a tough situation. He's not a high draft prospect at QB so if he wants to be a QB then leaving for the NFL might not be a good choice. But losing 5 games won't help him get better. If he goes as another position then there are questions marks if he can make that transition. Plus he gave his word (nod nod wink wink) that he would come back so there are now questions about his character.

I think this is called karma
I'm an OSU fan.
First, Pryor should definitely come back, not because I want him to (I actually dont), but because he is clearly not ready for the next level in many ways. This game was a perfect example of that. He can run and is elusive, no doubt. However, his passes are still not sharp - many big completions could have gone either way and/or were fortunate. His sideline behavior and akward post game interviews demonstrated serious maturity issues and lack of ability to handle that type of spotlight.

More importantly -
I understand that the decisions pertaining the suspended players were not made by one man alone and that there were significant financial ramifications for school, conference, etc.
STILL, I can't believe Tressel let the suspended players play. Here's a guy that has been the poster child for integrity, teaching life lessons, making the right decisions, etc. IMO, his long earned reputation just went from stellar to in the toilet.
I would have been far more impressed if he had been the first to suspend, fully support those who played in place of the suspended and they then played a hard, competitive game without looking back or making excuses.
Well, at least let this be a strong lesson for those of us in position to influence the lives of young baseball players.

Actually I’m more disgusted with the NCAA and the many rules they have with no room for looking at things case by case.

The purpose of the rule is to keep wealthy boosters from purchasing things from players at inflated prices. In other words… Paying players! If these guys sold their belongings at an inflated price, they should be punished. If they sold those things at a below market price, should they be punished? What if they sold a ring for fifty cents, should they be punished?

Obviously, they broke the rules. Not sure they understood or knew the rule. Sounds to me like it should have been a hand slap unless a booster, agent, or other person involved in the University was trying to illegally support these players with a big pay day! Was that the case? If not, the appeal process might be very interesting.

At first I thought Tressel should have disallowed the players to compete in the bowl game. However, the NCAA handed out the punishment (first 5 games next season). This decision might change to something less than 5 games at a later date. As the head coach, should you increase the penalty to include even more than the NCAA decision? I think Tressel made a very tough decision that involved much more than just those players. If all he cared about was his image he wouldn’t have played those guys. I have as much respect for Tressel as I did before. He’s a great coach.

No matter how good an athlete he might be, I can’t stand Terrelle Pryor. But, it doesn't have to do with the issue of him selling something to someone.

Sounds a lot like the description of Tom Osborne...Until the curtain got pulled back on Lawrence Phillips and we got a glimpse of what had really been going on for years. Moral to the story, is we never know what is really going on, in spite of appearances.

George Ryan might still be Gov of Illinois, instead of in prison, had not a piece of steel fallen of a truck and killed a whole family that ran over it and set their mini van on fire. The steel was traced to a truck and then to a driver that couldn't speak English. That raised red flags since you aren't supposed to get a CDL (commercial drivers license), if you can't speak English...The whole house of cards came tumbling down at that point as it was revealed that the Sec of State of IL (who was George Ryan at the time) had offices taking bribes for CDL's.

Moral to that story...lots and lots of illegal goings on happen every day, right under our noses, by people that have impeccable records and thought to be pillars of our communities...and they never get caught.

We have members here who can't stand Jim Tressel for some odd reason but he is one of the best coaches I have ever seen in any sport. He can be criticized for his conservative play-calling nature at times but his people skills are off the charts.

I am ambiguous toward Pryor but can see how he rubs people the wrong way. He has won some very big games at Ohio State. MVP of the Rose Bowl last year and MVP of the Sugar Bowl this year. My question for him is what position he plays in the NFL? I don't think it will be at quarterback.

Nothing close to the same situation, CPLZ. That's sort of like saying the entired military is a bunch of crazed immoral fools because of one ship captain. Good lord. Phillips was one homeless kid Osborne tried to help get on the right path. Gives the kid a second chance and the kid stabs him in the back...then you say Osborne's the bad guy? That team didn't even need Phillips on the field to win. Mad
PG - I read several related stories and one spelled out that the players were definitely aware, quoting a previous high profile player that this has been an issue for a while. Sorry, now I can't find the story to copy link.
CPLZ - I'm afraid you're probably right.
CD - was wondering the same thing about Pryor's possible NFL position. One thinks TE or big reciever, but I'm not sure he would adapt to the mentality of blocking regularly. Maybe if wildcat continues to morph...??? I see a strong possibility of "bust" with all the other issues previously discussed.
