it is aa joy to see wherethe kids you coached end up----some are in the pros, some became college all americans, some are college grads now coaching---some are in grad school----and someare now married with a family
TR, agree 100%!!! I had the pleasure to spend sometime with one of my old coaches and he said the same to me. It choked me up when he said it.
The rewards of coaching are a gift. We are very fortunate to be a part of young mens lives for a short period of time and see them grow into successful young adults.
Coaching for awhile now, its not about the game - its about the kids and the relationships.
Many times I have been asked about what I found rewarding about coaching. sometimes you are asked how many of your kids got drafted or went on to college or how many games and championships were won etc etc. The game was the easy part. It is the preparation and practice that is hard. I like to think that is what they took away with them. I was old school and was not one to throw around praise if it was not earned. If that helped my players prepare for the real world and was a part of success in their adult life then wins and losses championships although seemingly important at the moment are secondary to the end result.
