Im bringing up this topic because the screwball in my opinion is underestimated and overly bashed on. The typical view of the screw ball to people is that it hurts the elbow due to irregular twisting of the arm/elbow. In my view i see my screwball as one of my most effective if not most effective pitch i throw. I dont "twist the arm" as people tend to think you do when throwing a screwball, rather i snap the wrist like a fast ball but push on the far left-side laces (RHP) basically the same as a curveball grip but from the left side. This pitch rides and drops in on righty batters which either causes them to check swing for strikes or force them in to weak ground balls from a jam. The pitch is only about 3-4 MPH slower then my fastball so it is still hard to judge. Post opinions based on your thoughts. I'd love to hear them.

Yea i fooled around with this pitch because i noticed my original 2-seam grip didnt have the movement/drop that i wanted. so instead of the original grip i decieded to lean more on the left side of the ball and create movement from it. Im not sure if this is a variation of a 2-seamer and if it is i've never had pitching coachs/prospects show me it. I developed it on my own fooling around and its come to be my favorite pitch.
I've experimented with that pitch as well.. If its thrown with enough snap then it does move rather nice, but i tend to stick with my normal fastball because it has natural movement. And i throw in the other one previously discussed. My coach acctually emphasizes that pitch which he calls a "cut-fastball" for those who do not have good curves or would rather not throw curves on my team.

P.s since PGStaff is looking at this forum i was wondering how long it usually takes to receive confirmation on a Showcase request? I sent a request for the July 6th NY UPSTATE showcase at Geer Feild in South Troy, and have not received an email yet. Thank you for this acknowledgement. Smile

I was just about to post about this pitch but I did not know what it was called. How old are u ? Iam 13 and use the right seam which makes my ball break away from a righty, my dad called it a cutter so i guess he was right LOL. I have been trying to use the left seam to break in on the righty but it feels weird grip wise,I have small hands so its difficult. can u tell me how u hold it
I have been toying with that kind of grip sometimes for fun when I throw with friends, and I noticed that if I aim about 2 feet to the left of the guy, it will go straight at him, and at the last second, just has a wicked L to R slide, that breaks about 2 feet. Very funny watching people try to catch it. I throw it like a 2 seamer, but I have my pointer finger on the left seam, and my middle finger right inbetween the two seams, and just rotate a little bit to the left and snap, makes it break extremely hard.
