My sons HS team just returned from a tournament in Louisville, Kty and I've got to tell you how dissapointed I am. The teams participating in pool play were at best fair in our division and there were some good teams in the tournament overall, but this was no National High School Tournament. The worst episode of the weekend was with a team based out of Louisville called PRP and they showed some of the worst sportmanship our team, coaches and parents have ever seen. Never mind that we lost the game... We all have lost games, but the examples of dirty baseball abounded throughout our game.
From racist comments hurled at one of our players to their team refusing to leave the dugout to shake hands at the end of the game it was dirty baseball at its worst. The umpires had to make them shake hands. Their coaches certainly are behind this sort of behavior because for a whole team to act this way is no accident. And in fact two coaches from their teams in two different games against us were thrown out. To allow your players to tell the opposing coach "to shut the **** up"...to elbow opposing players while they return to a base on a pickoff attempt...to take players from their "B" team in the tournament and then switch them to their "A" team and not be accountable is ridiculous. We, of course will not return to this venue and after talking with other teams they will not either.
What ever happened to respecting the game...respecting and appreciating your opponet...putting your best foot forward...treating your guests with kindness... oh and keeping towels, soap and paper in the restroom. Unbelievable !!
