As we are all sports fans, I believe we can all relate to this story. I often tell friends that the most excruciating thing for a parent to be is the parent of a FG kicker, goalkeeper or pitcher. I've been all three. Some catcher dads tell me that its awfully tough on them with the winning run on 3rd in the last inning.

Anyways, I believe you all get what I'm talking about.

But here is a gut-wrenching story about the Stanford FG kicker, the missed kick in the Fiesta Bowl game and the heart-warming aftermath. Told from his mother's perspective.

Enjoyable read:

...thanks for sharing the article, JB.

I agree as well, I am just kind of tired about hearing what is wrong with the youth of today.

My opinion has always been it's a team sport, the blame should never lie on one single player, this is a good story, thanks for posting.
Great story. I noticed they ran to him after the first miss and tried to support him. I didn't notice on the 2nd one...
A long time ago I had a CF miss a ground ball that let in the winning run and nobody came over to console the player (state tourney, elimination game). It was several minutes before I did and I wish i would have handled it differently... since then I've told my teams that we have to be there for each other whether its a dogpile or walk off loss.... I learned the lesson the hard way though by seeing that kid suffer...
I wasn't as mature (at 29) as those Stanford kids.
