We drove up to see our first college game on Friday. The green grass, baseballs popping in mitts, ball and bat making contact (the ping of alumium). BASEBALL IS BACK!

We had no idea how much we missed it. No summer or fall ball this year, so it's been a long seven months.

Yesterday, the younger brother's high school team had a scrimmage -- a little cold and damp but still wonderful.

Just seeing the kids in uniform, having a blast, enjoying the game -- win or lose -- it was fantastic!

Those of you on the East Coast, please accept apologies from California in advance. I know you are still under snow, but trust me, baseball will come soon.

Ours was meant to be today, but it was rained out. Bummer. Excrement. Blast.

Fortunately...they're playing in town tomorrrow and I'm playing hookey to go see!

Baseball time!

From 'Nice Guys Finish Last' by Leo Durocher:

Baseball lives at the center of a never-flagging whirl of irreconcilable opinions.
Being in Southern California, I have always taken February Baseball for granted. The weather is 65 degrees and sunny, what more could you ask for? Cool

Now the reality check:
My son says the field is covered in snow in Virginia. Their first game is 3 weeks away and I am going for the home opening weekend. I am praying for no rain and all 4 games to be played.
Catchmom.....

My son's first THREE weekend series are in Virginia, and I'm not holding my breath that the fields OR weather are going to be ready. Maybe the baseball Gods will work their magic on the east coast and bring us some sunshine and a "little" warmth! Wink Of course I'm saying this as it is currently sleeting outside!
Catchmom,

Well, I guess I'm going to have to do some research to learn the "opposite" of a "rain dance". My son's baseball practice AND classes were cancelled yesterday due to 15 inches of snow!!!!! BUT....the baseball team apparently had one heck of a snowball battle! They massacred the swim team (like it would even be a close contest! biglaugh)
