My 2017 had JV fall practice last night.  He's been a p/o for the last year per the varsity head coach's opinion that he was most valuable there.  A few weeks ago, that head coach accepted a position at a new school - which may or may not play a part in all of this I guess.

The JV head coach this fall was the assistant coach on my son's summer team in 2013. So, he's familiar with my son's capabilities.

So, last night as they are practicing, I am over at the adjacent field watching a rather entertaining 10U game going on.  Every once in a while I can hear the coach yelling - I'm not really sure at whom, but obviously whoever it is, is in the doghouse.  Finally I kind of look over and see that he is working with the catchers. (For the record this coach was a catcher in the minors for about 10 years)

A few minutes later he walks off the field, over to where I'm sitting and says, "I know your son can catch - is he willing to do it?"  I told him my son hasn't caught in a while so he's going to be rusty, but he will play wherever you tell him to. So he says to have him bring his gear to the next practice.

As we are heading for the parking lot after practice I ran into one of the varsity coaches.  He told me that one of the varsity catchers was out with an injury and wouldn't be back until spring at the earliest.  So they need to move up one of the JV catchers, and they don't have confidence in any of them right now.  Apparently the JV coach thinks my son may be the best option.

So, if all goes as it appears, my son may soon go from JV pitcher to V catcher.  Certainly didn't see that coming.
