I am currently looking for a team to play for next summer. The last 2 summers I played on more of a developmental team as oppossed to a showcase team, so as a 2013, I am looking for a good showcase team to play on next summer. The problem is there is only one good showcase team in Louisiana (Marucci Elite), but only 4-5 of their players are actually from Louisiana. This means that I might need to play for a team from another state such as Texas, Alabama, etc. My main priority iss finding a team that is going to East Cobb 17u. What are some other good things to look for in a summer team?

Some things to consider:

*How many players drafted
*Percentage of players that went D1
*Quality of coaching (especially coach's ability to network and promote the player)
*Quality of competition
*Events/tournaments the team will play in
*Cost and affordability
*Offseason training and access to facilities
*History of overuse of pitchers
*Team dynamics (attitude of players and parents)
*Travel distance and cost
*Is it a team that scouts follow?
What is your talent level? Are you capable of playing for Marucci or a comparable team? You need to be on a visible team the coaches and scouts wnat to see. What level do you expect to play in college? Are knowledgeable people in agreement with your assessment of yourself? Have you made a first list of 25-50 potential target schools?

Playing PG events in Georgia and Florida are great. Most of the best players are there. I would encourage anyone to participate. But it may not be neccessary. There are other ways to get in front of your choice colleges that may cost a lot less.

Except for the jaw dropping studs who are recruited by everyone and cold weather players looking to get out of the area, most players play in their home state or a neighboring state.
RJM,

All but 1 of my target schools are outside of Louisiana, so that is why I figured playing for an out of state team that my schools of interest are more likely to follow would be a good idea. I could play for Marucci's "B" or "C" team, but the problem there is based on what I have seen, the Marucci staff is only really worried about the guys that play on their "A" team and they don't really provide recruiting help for the other players other than putting them in a few good tournaments.
You are correct about B and C teams. A known program in our area has B and C teams. I know a couple of players who said the organization was very little help. All the B team did was get him to East Cobb without exposure.

I believe you can get yourself assigned to a teamn for East Cobb. If you're good enough and in demand contact programs who attend every year and request being on their roster.

You could look to play summer ball in an area where you would prefer to play college ball. Obviosuly that involves arranging housing.

How good are you? What level do you intend to play college ball? Major conference D1? Mid Major? D2? D3? What state/region are you looking at?
