Not sure if "unfortunate" is the word that I would use to describe it...
Nova,
Since you opened the door, I'll bite. What word would you use to describe the E.Carter situation?

Quad, I'll pass on that. I think that I prefer to just use it as a parenting moment with mine...
It is an age where those types of decisions often get made I guess but you would hope that after having gotten a second chance that he would've been a little more careful.

Novaball, Rather than "selfish and immature" as you posted, sad is a better word. Since both infractions have involved alcohol, perhaps the young man needs some help in that area.
We all make decisions that reveal what we value the most. To Carter drinking means more than playing D1 college baseball at the highest level. He decided to drink. He knew the risk. He cares more about drinking than he does his team and his teammates. It's time he gets help before its too late.
Without knowing the details lets not go down the needs help road to soon. All those D1 players that have not had a drink step forward! I bet we could not put a round robin together. At least he was not driving. I wonder if atty Peter D has any ties to SC?
Yea you might be right. Let's see. He pitches on the number 1 team in the nation...gets caught drinking....suspended...pitches in jr. College for a year.....misses the chance to pitch on the 2nd national championship team....gets a second chance to pitch again four SC....then gets caught again. No need to rush to judgement.

Selfish and immature is what I had a discussion with my son about. But that said, I decided against leaving that as a post because it was better off being something said between father and son rather than on a post. The bottom line is that we are dealing with young men here and they make stupid decisions no matter how badly we want them not to. No matter how well we raise them and regardless of the endless talks about doing the right thing that I know ALL of us on this blog do with our kids. As I wrote the original post I thought that this same thing could happen to any of our kids...
So while I do think that it was immature, selfish with regards to his teammates, coaches and school, I also agree with you that it is sad, but am guessing that if he is that talented that he can overcome it and still accomplish much in baseball if that is what he chooses as pro sports has a very short memory...
