As my 2021 inches closer to his first spring of college ball, I am getting extra reflective and nostalgic.  I started taking this shot circa 2015 but I wish I would have begun around 2010.  But for about a decade, this is what Sundays looked like for me.  Traveling home after an exhaustive weekend at the ball park.  Sadly, that seat next to me is now empty, but my son is still blessed to have the chance to fall asleep exhausted after a weekend of ball like this.  But going forward - for as long as someone will let him - he'll need to fall asleep on a bus instead of my car.  Some of the best baseball moments happen OFF the diamond.  Cherish every one of them.

My daughter told me the first time she got on the college (softball) team bus she sat down and thought of all the rides and time we spent in the car together. She’s thirty-three now. I still smile and my eyes start to water when I think of this and/or post this.

I believe I understood my daughter and knew more about what was going on with her growing up than non sports dads due to the rides and discussions.

@danj - tell your son to get a cheap pillow or neck roll and throw (blanket) for those bus trips!

SO not necessary in my son's case.  I'm embarrassed by some of the places he's able to sleep in.  In that 2nd pic I posted note the UNFINISHED sub sandwich sitting in his lap.  It's nothing short of a miracle that sandwich wasn't devoured prior to the him crashing.  If there wasn't photographic evidence of it, no one who knows him would believe it.
