HI Guys,

I have a very tough question to have answered. When I pitch in a game I feel that I am not throwing as hard as I can when I pitch. I just feel like I have no zip on the ball. I ask the coashes and teamates, and thay all say im fireing the ball. What does this mean. My arm feels ok, no pain.

When playing outfield, or infield I throw hard with no problem. Its like im not even trying to throw and the ball is fireing out of my hand.

ANyone know what may cause this, or am I just being stupid.

This is a real serious question, becaus eof this I can not throw accurate beacuse im so concerned with that darn velocity.

I know the feeling. I experienced this when i was 15. How much do you weigh? Do you workout? Keep working hard and focus on your pitching game. DOnt worry about velocity. Worry about velocity in the off season. Now there is nothing you can do to increase strength at the moment. I would suggest the book Athletic Academia if you serious about gaining strength for velocity.

Take care.

When my son throws his fastest/hardest he says he feels like it's effortless, you may have just reached that "resonance" of mechanics and velocity. In my experience when you try to throw hard, you effect accuracy and velocity.
Bottom line if everyone thinks your smokin and you are throwing pain free and effortless (Particularly if you are successful)....whats the problem?
Sometimes it's better not to over-think it.
Mains3,
I would be very careful with those so called experts, unless he has studied the biomechanics
of pitching. Im sure he is a great trainer, but
always seek out further advice and more advanced training methodologies. Most people dont have good
flexibility and balance of their current body weight. There are a few drills that can really help you out. Here are a few,
1. Standing on one leg (push off leg)with arms
out stretched as you would when you break during your pitching motion. Balance yourself so that you can stand on this foot, slightly bent, for a few minutes without a break in balance. Now start to bend that leg more and more, until you can go all the way down and keep your balance.
2. Static Isometrics of the pecs, shoulders, and back muscles. SEE ATHLETIC ACADEMIA AT FIGHTMONKS.COM FOR MORE ON THIS.
3. Static push up holds in different slot positions, as well as finger tip push up holds.
4. Leg squat variations with your body weight. Hold the horse position as it stretches the legs and hip flexors.
5. Shadow pitching. This means you learn to relax your whole body and sink the weight into your feet. Shoulders and arms should be completely relaxed letting gravity pull your weight into your feet. NOw wind up and go through your motion, keeping your mind on the weight in your feet. When you tense a muscle or body part you will lose balance and weighted feet. Work on this until you can naturally stay relaxed through your whole wind up and delivery. This creates a whip effect and maximizes your fast ball, and alleviates arm problems.
There are alot of other things i could mention but i dont have the time or space.
I would also suggest Pull Ups and Chin Ups. Get a bar on your door, and dont walk past it without ripping out a set of 10. Also take your training seriously, because your competition is.
At your weight and size you should really take this seriously because your not that big for your age. IF your just bench pressing and doing free weights for your shoulders, and doing some squat work without the proper stretching and isometric work, then you not get the gains you are looking for in pitching, although you will gain overall strength.
Remember Flexiblility + Balance + Speed = True output power. Muscle power only gives you stregth when its connected.
I wish you the best and dont hesitate to ask me any questions.
Take care.
Thanks for that post warzone. Some very good information. Just to let you know though my trainer Ive been seeing had me doing everything. Pullups, pushups,squats,trapbar,deadlifts,..............ect. Not very much benching.

I realize im pretty small for my age, but right before I started working out I weighed in at 126. So thats a nice 15-20 lbs I gained. I take my workouts very hard. I will let yoy know if any of your infor helps.

I think much of it has to do with being stressed.
TR ,
not to be rude but you dont know this guy. Google the name eric cressey. You will find he has worked with many pitchers. One some in the new England area may know is kevin scanlin. He works with several varsity baseball players on my school team, and many others in diffrent towns. He has us doing all sorts of baseball type of workouts.

Hope you can understand. I know an ordaneriy weight lifter is no baseball trainer, but this guys diffrent.
