It seems to me that when I'm not pitching, I throw harder than when I get on the mound. I've been pitching since I was 8, and this is kind of unnerving. I don't throw puss when I'm pitching, but I just feel like if I pitched like I throw, I'd be pitching harder; things feel purer when I'm not in my windup. Does anybody else experience this?

I used to feel the exact same way as how you feel, that lasted for a few years, but than I just focused more and became more determined to pitch as hard as I could throw adn still be effective. I don't really think there is one blanket answer as to how to get that little bit more out of you, it can be both a mental and physical thing to try adn overcome, for me it was more mental than anything else.

I never threw an illegal pitch. The trouble is, once in a while I toss one that ain't never been seen by this generation
My son has the same problem. He says that he isn't able to get his legs into the pitch as much as he does when throwing. I haven't been able to find the answer, so I hope Doc_Kid is right about it passing. If you get an answer that helps you, please send me a PM with the advice. Don't freak out over it though - it hasn't affected my son's pitching effectiveness, he just isn't happy with his velocity.

AgentDad and Nj Pitch,
I was talking to my dad about this post last night after I replied to see if he could pin point exactly what it was for me, and he said that it the one big problem was I too wasn't able to get all my legs into my pitching, until I constantly worked on it for a while, and by this I mean making sure I used all my legs and all of my hips in my mechanics, than all of a sudden everything just clicked.

I also had to prepare myself mentally and not let it bother me that I could throw harder than I could pitch. Once you let it bother you, you've already lost, you have to get the idea out of your head and be positive that with hard work it will come around and you'll be able to have the same velocity and be as effective as you already are now with the added velocity to your pitching.

I hope this helps, I'm always happy to go over what I did to make it work for me if you want some advice.
