I've been getting a lot of questions and requests for try-out information and such for American Legion Baseball. So I decided to post some information and maybe answer some questions. I did something similar here last summer and it seemed to work well.

The southside area falls within the Virginia District 2 ALB. The peninsula area falls under District 3. I'll be posting D2 info hopefully someone from the peninsula will chime in with D3 info.

We offer teams in two age groups - Seniors who are 19U and Juniors who are 17U. There is no limit to the number of 19 year-olds a team may keep. Teams are formed based on where a player attends (or attended) school. There is no minimum age and it's not unusual to see 14 and 15 year-olds playing Junior. It is also not unusual to see college freshmen playing in the Seniors. Unlike most rec ball leagues we don't accept everyone. You must tryout and make your team. Detailed eligibility rules can be found at the ALB national website - www.Baseball.Legion.org.

We have two new programs this summer; one based out of Great Bridge HS and another from First Colonial, Princess Anne and Cape Henry combined. The following is a list of the teams that will be participating in the District 2 league. You may notice that more than one team can draw players from the same school. In those situations players may try-out for whichever team they wish. Again please check the national legion site for specifics on eligibility. I'll list any try-out information and/or team websites for the teams that I know of.

American Legion baseball has been around since 1925. On average 52% of MLB players and 80% of college players played Legion ball including 46 MLB Hall of Famers. Our games are regularily attended by college coaches and MLB scouts. The American Legion covers travel costs associated with the State, Regional and World Series tournaments should your team advance. American Legion baseball also provides college scholarship money to eligible college freshmen.

Some teams need coaches. If you would like to get involved with ALB or if you have any questions feel free to contact me and/or go to www.Post113Baseball.com. Thanks.
