Cox 6 Kellam 3

Pretty good game. Kellam jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Ryan Kilmon HR with Patrick Herrington on base. Richie Salter settled down to quiet the Knights' bats as the Falcons scratched out a couple of runs to tie it up and then plated 4 runs in the 5th(?) to take a 6-2 lead. The young Knight defense kicked it around a bit to help the Falcons' cause. Patrick Herrington scored the final run on a Ryan Kilmon ground out in the bottom of the 5th. Richie Salter got the win (6 IP, 3 hits, 3 ER) and Ryan Mattes got the save with a hitless 7th. Solid, error-free ball from the stellar Falcons' defense
WB 6 NR 2. Although out hit 9-4, WB prevailed over NR. Matt Batten (sr) pitched 6 strong innings, allowing 7 hits and 1 run for the win. He struck out 7 batters. James McDaniel (sr) pitched the 7th. Nick Thompson (soph), Matt Batten, C.J. McAndrews (soph) and Garrett Brooks (fr) had WB’s hits. Nick Thompson hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Tyler Manugo (jr) had two sac flies. CJ drove in the other run.

Erikson Keeton (sr) did not pitch but served as the dh, collecting 3 of NR’s 9 hits. Blake Miller (soph) and Johnny Pitts (sr) had the two rbi’s for NR.

Both defenses played errorless ball.

Deep Creek beat Oscar Smith.
COX 6 Kellam 3

Agree with CT that it was a good game until the 5th inning. Both teams were pretty even until Kellam pulled starter J. Di Fulgo in the top of the 5th. That is when the wheels came off and several errors where committed mixed in with a hit or two. Both teams struggled at the plate as far as hitting goes. Walks and errors were the price paid in this game.

COX had a great defensive game.

Not much “Music” when a team gets dominated. GB was well prepared for that game. It’s a shame too, with all that talent (GF has) and the poor performance (SS had about 4 e’s, no O, etc)..…. GB, WB, and Hickory looks to be in mid season form, but I still think the team to beat is IR. Well it’s only one game and it’s not always how you start the race.. it’s how you finish.
Hello all... my brother directed me to this site as it is one of the best places to go for 757 information/promotion. The other sites around VaPreps, MaxPreps seem dominted by Northern & Central regions. It's good to see some HR chatter.

As for the River, it was one of those days where once the first ball was hit well, everyone followed suit.

KF pitching was in the mid-70s with not much off-speed mixed in and the guys teed off. The team had 20 hits.

Senior Sean Wolfe was 4-4, 2 doubles, a triple, and 6 RBI. Junior Dean Ali had 2 hits, one a 2-run HR. Senior Justin Shockley was 3-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI & scored 5 runs. Junior Matt Dickason had a double & triple (both off of the wall) and 2 RBI. Senior Chris Cartwright was 3-3 with 2 BB, 3 RBI & 4 runs.

Pitching for the first time Junior Will Heath (is a catcher by trade we converted him in the offseason... he's 6'4") started strong shutting down KF for 2 innings, striking out 4 but ran into trouble finding the zone in the 3rd... Ali & Dickason combined to shut door (2.2 IP, 1 hit, 5 Ks).
