Thus far we have had quite a bit of rain the last several weeks, and therefore, the fields have remained wet and soggy. The 6-12 inches of snow we're expecting certainly isn't going to help!!!!

Isn't the VHSL starting date something like February 17 or 24? Either way, that's weeks from now.
Tryouts in the Richmond area begin on Feb 24 from reports I have heard. Which is about a week later than expected since typically they usually begin the Tuesday after the Presidents day holiday.
In any event - I just hope it isn't another rain filled spring like the 2013 season was. Get it all out of the way now.

Midlo - I think you are correct. I haven't checked the VHSL website, but I recall my son's HS baseball tryouts were usually around the 3rd week in February. He's now at a JuCo - they've been practicing since he started the semester in January - season starts in less than 2 weeks.
I did check the VHSL site and the start date is 2/24. A week later than past years, and the start date for competition is a week later as well. Next year start date will be 2/23, then 2/22, etc.
What that does is push out the state playoff games as well. Some players' beach week may be disrupted!

wow - State finals are June 14th. That puts a crimp in the typical start of the showcase season which is usually the weekend of June 7-8 as would usually be the case in years past. Now we are creeping into the NEXT weekend even. Interesting.
Especially since there will be three times the number of HS teams playing that final weekend.
I swear, I think VHSL is trying to foul everything up. They couldn't do a better job of it than they are.

I keep getting somewhat conflicting forecasts for my area - anywhere from just rain to 2"-4" to 4"-6" to 6"-8".
Kind of like a box of chocolates - "Never know what you're gonna get"........
Just to think if we had more indoor fields to play ball on we could play baseball all year long like they do down south and in the west...just sayin...23456.

Turned to rain around 5 am. Had about 5"-6" at that point. Now it's a slushy mess.
