Looks like Tidewater is going to get a dose of what we have to deal with every year up here in the northern part of the Old Dominion, just before the season begins.

S**W is a dirty word, I think we have been able to get on the field once in the past 5 years the first day of tryouts and lucky to get one scrimmage in anymore.

Thus far we have had quite a bit of rain the last several weeks, and therefore, the fields have remained wet and soggy.  The 6-12 inches of snow we're expecting certainly isn't going to help!!!!

Tryouts in the Richmond area begin on Feb 24 from reports I have heard.  Which is about a week later than expected since typically they usually begin the Tuesday after the Presidents day holiday.

In any event - I just hope it isn't another rain filled spring like the 2013 season was.  Get it all out of the way now.

Isn't the VHSL starting date something like February 17 or 24?  Either way, that's weeks from now.

Midlo - I think you are correct.  I haven't checked the VHSL website, but I recall my son's HS baseball tryouts were usually around the 3rd week in February.  He's now at a JuCo - they've been practicing since he started the semester in January - season starts in less than 2 weeks.

What that does is push out the state playoff games as well.  Some players' beach week may be disrupted!

Henrico has a great summary from the VHSL site:   http://henrico.k12.va.us/Pdf/I...ies/VHSLCalendar.pdf

Are you saying that you've actually been OUT of the gym at some point?!?!!?!  That would be nice!

In any case, the longer term forecast has it warmer and dryer just in time for tryouts!  Let's hope that holds true.
