Already today Sox picked up MacDougal from KC in a smart move. He replaces McCarthy in pen. Essentially getting Soriano for a couple of prospects (one a pretty good pitcher who was sandwich pick in 04). Down the road they'll miss McCarthy but have to admire Kenny Williams "win now" attitude.
Soriano a free agent to be so deal is not that easy. Still think the Sox are light on pitching, especially in the pen. Starters have come back to earth after magical 05 run but still pretty solid staff.

ESPN is saying the White Sox wont trade McCarthy
That is because they are not stupid. They don't need Soriano--hitting is fine. It would be nice to have him, but not necessary. On the other hand, the pitching is imploding. Trading away pitching at this juncture is a recipe for finishing in third place.
