The other night in our first round of the region we played a very inferior team and their strategy was to have their pitcher take his sweet time between pitches to frustrate us. I had a scouting report ahead of time and knew he would do this so I told my guys to call time and step out because everyone said this frustrated the pitcher.

Needless to say it was an UGLY game becuase it took forever and it was so boring both defenses played terrible. Combined both teams had 13 errors.

After a few innings of this I told my guys to just stand in the box in a very relaxed posture and then get ready once he starts to move just to try and speed things up.

My question is - what is the amount of time a pitcher gets between pitches? I'm not sure but 20 or 30 seconds sounds right.

What is the penalty if they go past this time limit?

Is it safe to assume the time starts over when my batters are granted time?

Thanks guys

In HS, the 20 second limit is still in effect with men on, but F1 can get around it by throwing or feinting to a base.

I will grant the batter "time" to step out once. After that, there better be a good reason for it or I just say "no, stay in here."

Sorry you had to endure that game, coach2709. The coach is probably the reason his team stinks. I have never called a 20-second rule ball, but I would look to do it there.
Of all the things I carry onto the field, a stopwatch is not one of them......try counting out 20 seconds...(one one thousand, two two thousand)...and see how long this is.....if you have someone delaying this long, call the penalty......

like dash I have never called this either, but I bet it would put a stop to this fairly quick.....
