Thought I'd start a Topic for sharing experiences and tips for the new college freshman student-athletes.
One of the tips we received that was invaluable was to look for opportunities to take online classes. Most colleges either offer them or have an affiliation with a JC that offers online classes. Adding an online class is a great way to take additional units each term, especially during the baseball season when players schedules are so busy and they are missing class days while on the road.
VERY important that online courses are added only with agreement of the college adviser to ensure that the class selected will count toward their required units and are pre-approved by the university. You also need to ensure that the grades get sent from the online school and are posted correctly to your university transcripts at the end of each term.
The tip is especially helpful in the first two years when the players are usually taking many general ed courses and still getting use to the demands of a full-time student/athlete.
