This would be a freaking HUGE mistake by the Red Sox front office! Francona deserves much better treatment than this....what about all the times that he held that team together with bailing wire. Absolutely ridiculous thought process....let's get rid of the best manager the organization has had in a century. I need a beer.

I may be turning in my Red Sox card of 49 years as I feel very strongly about this. I may have to change my message board name. It will take Francona exactly 1 nanosecond to find another team that wants to hire him.

I think the name "Wrigleysouth" is available.

With naming rights you also get to enjoy such delights as watching Soriano chase down balls in left (not to mention breaking balls in the dirt); Casto play ss with his back to the infield; Ramirez play third so bad that he makes Castro actually look good; pitching so bad that only a Cub fan can watch, all with a payroll in the neighborhood of the Red Sox playing in one of the easiest divisions in baseball with no playoff wins since Steve Bartman lunged for a foul ball.
There wasn't management support for renewing his contract. Francona is a manager of player's personalities. He's not a tactician. The Red Sox roster has too many prima donnas who tuned out Francona. The word is Varitek, Youkilis, Crawford, Drew, Ortiz, Lester, Beckett, Lackey and Wakefield were problems with their whining. Losing coaches John Farrell and Brad Mills hurt. They played bad cop to Francona's good cop with the roster. Since the roster can't be fired, if the manager loses control of the roster, he has to go.

I remember Pat Riley saying after all the success he had coaching the Lakers there's a time when a coach runs out of new ways to spark motivation, the players tune him out and it's time to leave.

Given your perspective Tito may become a good analyst. From his managerial career it's visible he knows it's about the players, not him. McCarver thinks it's about him.
Francona was terrific last night for the first time out. For those of you who may not know, I played baseball with Tito when his dad was with the Braves. Their were several ball players living in the apt. complex in Jonesboro, Ga.
Tito Franncona, Orlando Cepeda had an orange Monte Carlo.....sweet and pitcher Jim Brewer they had a three legged beagle that could out run all of us, but of course we were age 8 and 9. Great times!
