Tobacco is prohibited in many, perhaps all, summer leagues, but enforcement as to "smokeless tobacco" has appeared to be somewhat lax...until now.

MLB will be strongly enforcing its no tobacco rule in the minor leagues and they are working toward a ban at the MLB level. MLB and the NCAA are strongly encouraging the summer leagues to enforce the prohibition. They don't even want to see little cans in rear pockets.

The penalty in the book is ejection of the offending player AND his manager and the umpires are being told this is to be a big deal this summer.

If you're a college player that unfortunately uses this stuff, the times are indeed changing so better start weaning thyself now...
