My son's team has been practicing for two weeks; they play their first two non-conference games.  I will be there, but he will not -  he'll be suiting up for post season basketball games played the same days.  They should win the first one, but the second opponent will be way too tough.  Don't tell my son, but I won't be heartbroken when they lose.  It's time for baseball!

Given how bad the drought is out there I would think you'd be welcoming the rain.  I wish I could send you the water from the lake in my backyard.  My front and back yard are soaked with all the rain and snow we've this year.

First official day here in Ohio....the parts of the field that don't have snow on them have standing water puddles from the melting that started late last week.  The weather here in Ohio makes for a lot of indoor practice.   Last spring practice started Feb.25th.....got on the field for the first time on Saturday March 30th....and played first game on Monday April 1st......hopefully that's not the case again this season.

TCWPreps - I am so with you.  Not looking forward to another winter mess.  I know it's early March and it's still winter (meteorologically speaking), but I am so ready for spring and warmer weather.

Looks like my son's JuCo is just out of the "cold" zone (probably just rain for them) while we are in the moderate 4"-8" zone.  Ugh!  I guess it's a good thing I haven't put the snow shovels away yet......

You mean you can see grass? What's that?  As I type it's -14F, we'll hit 6F today.  Maybe we'll see freezing on Thursday and we can start melting the 3-5 feet of snow on the ground.

Ah, but it's all good, tryouts are two weeks away.

Y'all would get a kick out of us in California.  We don't do weather well - nor do our fields.

We got about 3-4" of rain over the last few days.  That's about 20% of our annual total precip and more than we've had in the last 8 months total.  After an uninterrupted Spring practice season, we will probably be off our field for a week and have to re-arrange the start of our season.

Right before the storm, the softball team conducted a major "save the field" operation...  First, they made an announcement for tarp donations at school.  That afternoon, they gathered several tarps and made about 300 sand bags.  They covered the entire infield skin, carefully layering the tarps so the seams were running to low points.  Looked like they were preparing for a Major Hurricane.  The whole group must have spent at least four hours, carefully placing tarps and sand bags.  I later heard from the AD that if backfired and the water seeped through the seams, leaving a soupy mess underneath.
