Trivia question: Who is the only major league player to wear his b'day on his back?

Answer: Carlos May. His birthday is May 17th. He wore number 17 for the White Sox.

He was part of the famoous outfield: No neck, no thumb and no brains. May lost his thumb in a military accident. Walt Williams was called "no neck"...because he basically had no neck, and I won't insult the center fielder who had no brains.

Carlos May is a classy guy. And that's all I've ever heard about him. A buddy of mine played for him when he was an assistant with the Cook County Cheetahs and had nothing but good things to say. I got the opportunity to meet him myself when I worked coaching at the Sox summer camps. He has some great stories, and is a great guy.

And yes, it is a great trivia question about a great player that is often overlooked. AL Rookie of the Year and a few All-Star games as well.
He actually had better stats than Bobby Mercer, the actual rookie of the year that year, but the New York press got the award to Mercer. May had better stats even though he missed the last six weeks of the season due to his injury while serving in the National Guard. He blew his thumb off, yet came back, learned to throw with the stub, and had a productive offensive carreer even though he never had the same power after losing the thumb.
