I'm not sure if it was a repeat of an earlier show but if you get a chance to watch Tom Seavers interview on MLBTV I recommend you take the time. It was a treat. Especially for those of us involved with a pitcher.

To hear Tom explain his mental approach to the game, how he views pitch counts and how he would break down what he needed to do to adjust his mechanics was fantastic. His thought process was enthralling.

Tom Seaver just made my top 5 list of guys I would like to have dinner with. (Pee Wee Herman just got bumped Smile)

I saw that a few weeks ago and I wholeheartedly agree. It was a great interview. I had my son come up and watch it. Hopefully some sank in.

Seaver seems like a great guy and his insights on how he approaches batters, makes adjustments to his mechanics and how he approaches a batter depending on the game situation were truly fascinating. He did discuss pitch counts as well and said even back then, the pitchers were on pitch counts. Just a lot higher than they are now. He said his pitch count was 135 pitches. He also mentioned Nolan Ryan's was around 150 and Jerry Koosman was 145. He said he was very aware of his pitch count and how he changed the way he approached hitters when he knew he was nearing it. Very good.

He also told a pretty cool story relating to a Hall of Fame dinner. If you can catch it, it is a must see.
