A few days ago I posted that "Today is the day!" to signify the start of high school baseball tryouts at my son’s school. Well tomorrow is really the day as that is when the cuts are posted. To tell you the truth this High School baseball tryout process is definitely harder on old dad than it is on Jr. I hope that doesn't mean I am one of those dads who are trying to live vicariously through their son. But I just know how much making the team means to my son. Not being a physically gifted athlete he has worked very hard the last several years with the goal of making it to the next level which at this point is making the freshmen team. The first week of tryouts was filled with lots of running and drills and my son has given it his all but not being an impressive physical specimen I don't think he has stood out. While I would never admit it to my son this process has made me extremely nervous knowing how much he will be crushed if he doesn't make the team. Well last night was the first scrimmage and my son was called on to pitch and he did a pretty good job actually pitching a no hitter even if it was against only seven batters. So tomorrow is the day and whether my son makes the team or not I know he has given it his all and I can be proud of that.

I just got a call from my son and he made the freshmen team. So it looks like I will be enjoying another spring watching my son play baseball.

I am usually not the nervous type but it can be nerve racking when something so important to your son is in the hands of people who have known him for really only the 7 days of tryouts. So thanks to those of you who provided words of encouragement and support it really did help and it was a lot cheaper than hiring a therapist.
Hooray for BB, Jr! Tell him he's got baseball-internet-weirdo-parents all over the country wishing him well and interested in hearing about his season. greenjump

Have fun, there's lots of good baseball ahead of you all!
