My son's high school coach was contacted by an D-1 school last week about my son, who is a catcher. This school was supposedly coming last summer to make my son an offer for an early commitment. The week of this "offer" the entire coaching staff was replaced and we never heard from them again. Now the new staff is inquiring.

They told the coach that they had heard great things about him and that he could really help their program and they just needed to see him play. They are holding a camp this weekend which is full, but they are getting him in it so they can see him. They know all about what happened this past summer.

My question is this...If they do end up liking him after this weekend is there enough time to get an offer, etc. before the early sign period?

We also experienced a few recruiting ups and downs this summer due to changes in coaching staff. Very interested! Where'd they go? New school interested (one where coach ended up) then old/first school interested again (I guess when new coach found and dusted off the old files?) All part of the recruiting roller coaster ride.

The NLI early signing period this year is Nov 8 thru Nov. 15, 2006. I believe anything is possible as long as the NLI is signed during this time. Otherwise, you'll have to wait till next spring to officially sign. Hang on and try to enjoy the ride. Remember there are others who would love to be in your shoes getting contacted by anyone!

Bye the way did you get a chance to check out the school, new coaches. Does your son like the school? All the questions regarding a good "fit"?

My son has visited this school several times with my brother who is a graduate. He made an "unofficial" visit with the old coach earlier. He hasn't met anyone on the new staff. He did speak to the recruiting coordinator last week. As far as a good fit, I really think it would be. A ton of kids from his high school go there, plus it is a really big school with a lot to offer academically.
