All people progress differently and we don't know much about his particular surgery. But I don't think that pitching a bit in milb games (for work) is out of the ordinary. 12 months seems to be the norm and we don't know the plan they have in mind for him (shut down in winter or pitch).

He needs work, there are only a few weeks left to the season, who is he going to pitch too then?

ESPN was saying that the Nationals are talking 10-15 innings in the minors and then 40-50 innings in the major leagues. And he's not at 12 months; he's at almost 11. He's 12 months from the injury, but he had the surgery sometime in September last year.

There is also talk of Wainwright possibly making an appearance on the 25-man roster for the Cardinals this fall. Even more crazy! But apparently his has to do with his contract more than anything...
Actually I think Jaime Garcia came back within a year, not sure.

When you are at that level the rules change, they have invested lots of money and they are losing money on their investment. Wainwright had his surgery in feb? I have not heard of plans for him to even pitch in milb games. There is no room on the roster for him to return this season.

Surgery was in either February or March I believe. They have talked about it a couple different times on the Cardinals broadcast and it's been in the newspapers a couple of times. If it were to occur, it'd likely come in September when the rosters expand to 40. Oops.. noticed I said "25-man" in my previous post.
If I'm not mistaken, all it would take would be one appearance for Wainwright to be eligible for the post season roster as he was DL'd. As he was previously on the 25 man roster, he does not have to be active on August 31 to be eligible for the post season roster pool.

One of the loopholes to manipulate the active roster so as to have as many people to choose from, if needed, when picking playoff rosters. And I believe it can change from series to series. Doesn't have to be the same 25 the whole post season.

You ae right, it may be just to get in front of live hitters, there is no practice this time of year! Wink

Bulldog,
The cards can negate their option if he is on the DL, but they will excercise it anyway, so it won't matter, they won't let him go anywhere.
Here's what I found

quote:
If Wainwright joins the roster before the end of the season, a two-year, $21 million option to his contract would automatically vest. Otherwise, he's a free agent in the same offseason when the Cardinals are trying to re-up with Albert Pujols, who is, coincidentally, also injured. The rationale wasn't lost on teammate Skip Schumaker, who reportedly was joking around with Wainwright about only playing for the money.

That article was from back in June.
As I said the Cards can negate it all if he is not on the roster, but they won't they will give him what he wants, just like they gave Garcia.

Albert..... I am not so sure he will get what he wants, depends how they end up this season.
Almost 7K attended the double header yesterday.

For those that live in that area, on August 16, the Hagerstown Suns will honor Nick Adenhart. Nick grew up in the Hagerstown area. They have a great silent auction scheduled and proceeds go to the Nick Adenhart Memorial Fund.
Please see their website for details.
My son had tj in 2006 and started a game vs GA Tech 11 months later. He was not ready to go 100 pitches but he was physically ready to compete. What did Strasburg throw his last outing 30 pitches. IMHO, at this point his head is the part that is not "in shape" and that doesn't recover until you step on the bump "live" a few times.
