I notice three teams out of the SED in the top ten. Which two make it out of the district and into the region?
While I recognize that we probably won't have 5 teams from one district ranked at the same time, I have a hard time believing that Hickory and/or Indian River is not better than a couple of the programs listed near the bottom of the rankings. Point is, let's not assume that because those two weren't ranked that they cannot be one of the two teams representing the SED in the regional tournament.
My personal belief is that when all is said and done, GB and NR will be the representatives. But they will have earned it!
Hickory will struggle this year. They will play some great games but overall...they lack "varsity" pitching. So a number 2 ranking is probably a little optomistic even for me (a Hickory fan). IMO saying IR is a number two on this list is stretching it as well.
But I agree that Hickory is better than 9 and 10.
I heard Cox is without Larry McCabe this year due to shoulder surgery, Bay is done because of grades, and another starter cant pass a concussion test. Can anyone confirm these? If those kids are out Id say Cox wont be three very long.
Sorry to hear of the injuries. That is unfortunate. Even with them, they shouldn't be #3 anyway, IMO.
Maury #9?
i thought with the erby brothers lake talor would be the favorite!

I am not sure about Maury being on this list either or Lake Taylor for that matter. Again the Eastern district is not very strong...
Nothing against Maury but the leading batting averages in the ED are always over .400 and none of the players listed in the paper hit that mark. Lake Taylor got no ink in the paper.
Not completely familiar with schools and regions, so asking if this is a Top 10 list for the Eastern Region.

No this list is the top 10 for the southern Tidewater Area (excludes the pennensula/ they have their own top 10 list). Produced by the VA Pilot. This top 10 includes both private and public schools from Chesapeake/ Suffolk/ Portsmouth/ VA Beach/ Norfolk. Maury H.S was the only Eastern District team represented.
This is a top 10 list for South Hampton Roads in which three of the Eastern Region districts lie (Beach, Southeastern and Eastern.) The fourth district is the Peninsula District. The list also includes private schools (i.e., Greenbrier Christian, Atlantic Shores and Cape Henry.) Basically schools within the main readership of the newspaper The Virginian Pilot.
Ocean Lakes was not mentioned in the Virginian Pilot post season article. Although I am an OL parent I believe they will crack this top 10 sometime during the season. In their first scrimmage against Hickory they were handled 11-4 but gave up double digit walks. Last Saturday against Indian River looked much better in winning 7-3.
i would say my top10 is
1 kellam
2 great bridge
3 menchville
4 nansemond river
5 hampton
6 woodside
7 hickory
8 western branch
9 kecoughtan
10 indian river
4 teams from the Peninsula ? Not too sure about that, but I'm sure you know more than most in giving that opinion ?

Funny. GCA, no doubt, is a top 10 team.

not counting private schools!
There is no chance 4 peninsula teams would be in the top 10.
