*I meant to type 6.5... the 8 is right above the 5 on the keyboard thing I must have pressed it wrong* lol

I was just using Drabek and Kershaw as examples because they are near you. Take Rowell for example, from New Jersey. Although his school is a powerhouse in the state, it's still Jersey. But he excelled at the Aflac game (among others of course), and look what that did for him now.

As for not taking credit for Walden in the 12th, I'd have to disagree. In the past, PG has been wrong and have admitted it. In 2002, they rated Scott Kazmir their top player (not a bad choice, evident by his performance with the Rays), but didn't even include Prince Fielder in their Top 50, and he is now a candidate for Rookie of the Year. They admitted it http://perfectgame.org/stories/06%5F05%5F11%5Fscott%5Fkazmir/ . No one is perfect, they know this as well as everyone else.

As for people taking too much credit for what youg kids do, I completely agree with you 100%. I've experienced it myself already, and I am just starting the college hunt (though I'll leave all that out of here and focus on the real issue). I despise people who say "look what I taught him." 90% of these people might have showed a kid something once. And from then on the kid works on that specific thing everyday, waking up at dawn and doing hundreds of reps because of a burning desire in him. Still, when the time comes that the success shows, the person who first helped for 10 seconds takes credit. I say 90% because it's not everyone. There are some people who should be commended and should take credit for these things. And that's usually two different people. An organization like PG, because they helped the kid get that far. They never say that the kid wouldn't have been there without them, but no one can deny that they helped. The other one, and the one that deserves the most respect and praise, are the parents. The parents, the ones who are on the ballfield at age 3 for an hour a day with a tennis ball and a whiffle ball bat. The parents who coached all those Little League championship teams and had to deal with all the parents who thought their son was the second coming of Nolan Ryan and is now playing JV Lacrosse at some random "elite" private school (you know the type, they're everywhere). The same parents who drove halfway across the country just to watch you strike out a kid twice your size, or in the cases of Drabek, Kershaw and Walden, half your size. The parents who yelled at you to get off the computer and do some homework (which is what I'm due for right about now lol). The same parents who paid thousands of dollars for all the showcases and tournaments you went to just because it was your dream and it made you happy. The parents that cried with joy at your college signing day because it was the happiest day of your life. The parents, the people that love you. Not some random guy who taught you a curveball grip at age 14. So in that respect, I agree with you Diablo.

TRHit- good story about Cabreja. Got to face him (fortunately or unfortunately) pitching to me in BP in the gym a while back for the summer team, could have swung before he threw it and still didn't have a shot. Too bad we most likely aren't going to have him the program this summer, but many congrats to him.

Oh and Ken, send congratulations to Kershaw. I watched the scouting video(s) on MLB.com and a lot of my teammates were talking about the draft in school (a few of them played for the Bayside Yankees, so knew a few guys drafted). It's definitely cool to see a player dominate so well by working hard at what he does. He serves as a role model to a lot of younger players (and LHP like myself). Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

oh my! This is still going? Josh, good comments. I would add even as a parent-it is our son that decides how much it matters. We try to provide him opportunities (cage work, teams, instruction etc) but he HAS to ask for it to happen. PG does the same. My son just had his first showcase...he decided how he would change his 14 year old training to get to be his best. Desire and a will to make it happen has to be there from the inside and even a parent can't do that......
PGStaff,

Add my kid to someone you helped (drafted yesterday). We tried to get to a showcase but it just never worked out for many different reasons. He was drafted and you guys helped him out without any financial reason. I wish you would count him in as one of yours even though we didn't make the fall event. I appreciate your help and wish you continued success.

Papa
the big thing here is nobody ever had anything bad happen to them because they went to a showcase.and i don't think anyone didn't eat or missed the house payment.at the very least these kids have a great memory.
if we are so worried about people making money off of us we'd still live in tents and shoot dinner.
Big fan of PG here. My son didn't get his scholarship via event he attended nor was he drafted.
However, going to PG served two purposes. He got a clear indication that there's an amazing ammount of talent out there - motivated him to work much harder.
He saw his evaluation & grade in black & white from the #1 scouting service. While it was right on the money, I know it annoyed him to be at that level & motivated him further.
Will he be a high draft or drafted at all? Who knows - but going to PG pushed him to go for whatever his ceiling might be & see what happens.
He did touch 89 (jugs) for 1st time last night & hit it 8-9 more times. If he ever goes anywhere in the game I'll point to his PG experience as one of the driving forces. If not - we had a great time in Fla. & met lots of nice people.
PG & the other quality showcase companies that are in it for the right reasons provide a great service!
For those who might actually care.

The total number of players drafted this year who attended PG events... A new record... 952

That is over 63% of all the players drafted this year.

Over the past 5 years... 3,078 draft picks and 141 first round picks.

I don't know for sure if it would have turned out exactly the same no matter what. But I really don't think so!

We DO NOT make players into draft picks, we simply let everyone who counts know about them and in the end... We add them up and follow their careers.

Congratulations to all 952 of these players and the many more who will go on to college and possibly be drafted later.

PG,
Some People just don't or Won't understand how much a
A showcase can help a Player to find out where they fit into the picture as far as there baseball talent goes.
And that is exactly what your's PG and other Showcases provide.
It's a Reality Check for some Player's/Parent's, Which is a good thing for both.
Hoblo Diablo is right that the top Players would of been Drafted anyway.
But how many lower round player's that never would have been found or noticed if they had not attended a PG or other top Showcase.

To be able to show Report's from these event's to College recruitor's is Invalueable.

Add my Son to the 952 that was helped by PG, Teamone, Baseball Factory his Summer Coach, His HS Coach, and everybody else that's had a little piece of this Player's success.
Kudo's to you All. and a Big Thank You from the EH
Andy,

This is a lot of work, but here is a few from the 2005 National Showcase who were drafted. By 2009 that number will get much larger as many of the best were unsignable this year out of high school.

Once again here are some National Showcase players who did get drafted this week. I'm sure there were more that I missed.

For many PG players, the draft is a pipe dream, but they don't care. They look to PG showcases for other reaons - it's a venue to be evaluated, perchance to have college recruiters and coaches get a whiff of your name. I know personally that PG goes out of his way to help individuals even with smaller goals. THAT is what it's all about. In my book, they are beyond reproach.
PG, A personal thank you to you and your organization for the great work in what you really do. Yes many of these kids would have been drafted. But there are many who weren't drafted, but have been seen by many scouts and coaches, and now they will have great opportunities at a college education and baseball career.
I was wondering what kind of numbers you will have for those entering college who weren't drafted? I am sure it's many.
The exposure, the contacts, the confidence the baseball world has in your organization is what makes you guys first class.
The Devil isn't here to promote, but to antagonize the masses.

Thank you again, from a coach and instructor who knows and appreciates your value.
PG Jerry

You sure are correct about J. Weeks of Miami Hurricanes! WOW! He has really turned the corner and made it through to the other side of that wall that had been holding him back for a while early in season. Giles and Valencia have really done well of late also. I believe with the current momentum of the Hurricanes, Coach Morris just may have a surprise for some teams in Omaha! I love this game! Peace, Shep
