My son has been invited to attend the Top Guns National College Prospect Development Camp next summer. We are new to the recruiting business. Does anyone have any info/experience with this showcase/camp? The letter states that a university recommended my son. My son has recently been to a couple of college showcases but has not received any correspondence from any college. Therefore, I guess I'm a little skeptical but there are several positive referrals for Top Gun from D1 coaches. I appreciate your opinions.

DONT GO TO THESE SHOWCASES! strictly a moneymaker, hardly any scouts there at all, i went when i was a freshman, and it didnt really seem to be that great of a showcase, being a veteran of the showcase circuit, i would say anything Team One of Perfect Game puts on is the way to go. But i wouldnt recommend this showcase, if you wanna get the most bang for your buck, Team One or Perfect Game is the way to go.
well which one are you going to? a regional one or the national one, the national one i've heard there are lots of college and pro scouts, but i went to a regional one, and there were very few scouts there, there was one pro scout who was helping run the event, then since it was at UCF there were the UCF coaches around, that was about it, no other scouts when i was there. It may have changed since then since i went 3 years ago as a freshman, but i know it was around $500 when i went, and it didnt produce much interest for me,Then they will send you a letter saying u made a team for the national event, which they want you to pay like $1200 and fly out to las vegas and pay for your own flight, room and board and food, along with the $1200. Thats how it was when i went, and it seemed like it was basically a moneymaker. It may have helped a lil bit, but as far as im concerned most or ALL the feedback i have gotten from showcases have come from the Perfect Game showcases i have attended. I would really just recommend perfect game for all your showcases, they really run a class act organization and you get a lot of bang for your buck, and there are always LOTS of pro and college scouts at their showcases. but as far as Top Gun i wouldnt personally recommend it.

It is a National event. Some of the colleges already commited include LSU, Arizona State, Baylor, Rice, Texas Tech, OK State, UCLA, Missouri, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State and a few others (plus there are supposed to be more pending). You are correct - it is not cheap. It is $595 for the event itself (I'm not sure how that really compares to the other showcases). I have contacted PG and will consider those as well. Thanks for your feedback.
You stated that this camp was in the summer. Where is it, what is the date. You need to check out what else is going on at teh time and where.
I know nothing about the organization. I can only tell you that I would be leary of anyone promising who is going to be there and who is not.

I have no direct experience...just know a person or two who have gone to one in the West. It is not one of the better known showcases. Maybe they'll get there someday, but they are lower on the food chain right now.

If possible, you want your son to attend a showcase that is reputable and has other good players...other potential draft or college players. The people I know who went to a Top Guns showcase were younger and used it to get introduced to showcases in general.
