I took my son to a baseball clinic that was hosted members of the Astros and Padres. Lance Berkman was talking about hitting, and he said something that I'd never heard before.
He said that the top hand should be closer toward the pitcher than the bottom hand. His explanation was that if you were to throw the bat with your top hand, you'd have more power if you started from that position.
I've seen a lot of hitters do that, and it gives the bat a forward slant... but I don't quite get it because it seems to me that the hands (and the bat) have to do the opposite of that once the swing starts.
What am I missing?
