Top Ten Reasons to Love College Baseball

Please help finish this list.

10. More of the top teams schedule other top teams as non conference opponents than in college football (e.g., Stanford/Rice and Ole Miss/TCU yesterday).

9. Unranked teams more regularly win non conference games against ranked teams than in college basketball (e.g., Minnesota over UCLA and Duke over Florida yesterday).

8. By the time your kid has gone through high school, played travel ball, played some college ball, and played in a collegiate summer league, you know players on the rosters of teams all over the country (e.g., I actually checked the Villanova/Monmouth box score).

7.  You can follow the exploits of the kids of HSBaseballWeb members (too many to list here, playing all levels of ball).

Great idea for a thread and a great list thus far!

I think it is obvious that I love college baseball.  I live vicariously through many sons here who I 've gotten to know through their fine parents.  I still follow my son's alma matter religiously and root for them to finally make the magical trip to Omaha.

There is something magical about college baseball.  It usually takes all of a young man's powers and some luck to even get into a game let alone become a contributor at that level.  FormerObserver said it well when he said it is a game of musical chairs at the next level.  All the kids were stars in high school yet few find a chair for themselves at the next level.  Ahtletic darwinism is a nother analogy that I have heard that makes sense on many levels.  All those nice things they said during recruiting goes away when you show up in the fall as a freshmen trying to take some other kids postion away who may be four years older and 20 lbs stronger.

It can be the worst of times but for those who are persitent and willing to fight through adversity, it can indeed become the best of times.

I love college baseball, IMO there is nothing that compares to it, even at the pro level.  I definetly agree, it can be the worst of times and the best as well.  If one can get through 3-4, 5 years of college baseball and carrying, 16-18 credits per semester, one can definetly do anything after that!!!!!

So much has changed even since son attended, much more parity and I like it like that. I still follow son's former team.

We watched the UF vs Duke game last night, and UF got beat at their home opener.  You know that song, anything can happen, well it did.

TPM - did you see Rob Kremer at the game?

Hoping my son's team can do this when we go to Atlanta in March.
