Under National Federation of High School Rules if any part of the foot touches the plate when he contacts the ball, he's out......

BUT

A batter is never out for touching the plate AFTER he hits the ball. A batter is entitled to run to first base.....and expecting a right handed batter to intentionally step around the plate is asinine.....

And in no way does doing so construe that the runner has not touched the bases in the proper order.....

I guess the question with the lefty would be; was he he immediately trying to go to first base? I know that once a ball is in play and that someone is attempting to make a play on that ball the batter/runner has to take a direct path to his base. A righty has no choice but to step around or on home plate but a lefty?

The umps here probably can answer that question better.

The runner only has to run a direct line to a base when a tag is being attempted. Otherwise, he can hook out toward the mound and come back to 1B as long as he doesn't interfere with the play.
