My son was invited to the TPX Top 96 event at the Miami of Ohio University this past July. I will never take him to another one again. The camp was unorganized and they greatly exaggerated how many coaches he would actually be seen by and the instruction he would receive. Plus, they advertised a "professional" DVD that would be appropriate to send to college coaches for an extra fee and it was definately not worth it.
I think that the quality of the TPX Clinics probably varies, depending on the location. My son attended the clinic last summer (Pennsylvania East) and it appeared to be pretty well organized with a fair number of college coaches in attendance. I believe that all the coaches on the list were there as well as some additional coaches who weren't on the list. My only complaint was that if you weren't listed as a primary pitcher, there was no opportunity to pitch in the "games" because so many kids were signed up. However, I did hear that the "professional" video was of dubious quality! (We didn't order one.) I suspect that if the location has been hosting the clinic for a few years, it's a safer bet. Overall, it was beneficial for my son.
My son attended two TPX events last summer. I have a mixed review. The coaches who invited my son would not give him the time of day. It seems like they get paid to invite kids. Each player receives instruction in different clinics and is evaluated by a college coach. Your scores may differ depending on who does the evaluation.

With that said, my son left the first event early due to an eye infection. He ended up getting a call from a coach who liked his swing and the way he played. My son is currently being recruited by that coach. At the second event, my son played fairly well but he did not get much interest at all from any of the coaches there.

My 09 just received an invite to a TPX showcase/clinic being held here in the Chicago area in August. I found it very amusing that they want a yes/no response and the fee --$395.00 as soon as possible...and its only january . They are trying to make it sound like you will get shut out if you dont pay up right now. Im pretty sure we are going to pass.
Both of my sons attended their clinics the past 2 years. The first one we wanted to attend soldout on march 15. That was the NE 07 event, we did put our name on the waiting list and got in.

My first son did not buy the video because I had one made for around $500. Had him introducing himself, had him running on to his position had some nice power point resume stuff. Was about 8 minutes long. College coaches later told me a threw away my money, all they want is a dozen swings and him fielding. The other stuff was just fluff. My second son bought the video this past summer from TPX and it was exactly what the coaches wanted to see. I found out the hard way that the video needs to be efficient and not beautiful.

I found the coaches that they advertised were all at the clinic and we were very happy with them. I think you need to figure out what you want from an event and TPX seems to offer both the showcase part and the instructional part. the day was VERY long, but every kid got his chance in front of all the coaches. Was it perfect, no, I would have preferred less kids, but when I asked the director he said that is how they can get 30 coaches at the event by having 150 attend. I guess that makes the most sense. Overall, i would say it was the best out of the PG and Blue/Gray. At least the coaches they said would be there, were there
I went to the Illinois event and the academic one in CT. Best I had been too. Got two colleges call me from Illinois and a bunch from Academic. I'm committed to Univ of VT. A teammate who graduated last year got recruited the day of the event by either Illinos State or Indiana State and started college 3 days later. Both of the ones I went to were sold out. I was on a waiting list for Ill but got in a week before the event.

Yeah - and all the college coaches advertised were at Illinois and I swear there were 20 more than advertised at the Academic. Alot of small schools I think.
I was at one in MO and all the coaches were there who were advertised, plus a handfull more showed up that weren't listed. I agree, each location will be run by different people so just because one location doesn't do a good job doesn't mean the clinic in general is a bad idea.

Yes, the fee can be a little pricey (I think this one was $250), but the college coaches are paid to be there. That's how they guarantee the coaches to attend. The colleges love it because it's a recruiting opportunity with no money out of their budget.

This is more of a showcase than a clinic/camp in my opinion. Keep that in mind before signing up to attend.

Thanks!

Two of my teammates, 2008 texted from Fla Orlando that there are a sh**load of coaches there this weekend.
i went to a tpx top 96, with all the wooos and ahhs of being a bunch of college coachs, 90% of the coachs there at least D1's are volunteer assistants and yeah they can probably relay some info to the head coach, but c'mon now...lets put it this way i went to a PG way more money but i got a bunch of D1 letters after event, i went to top 96 and i recieved nothing, just the same colleges from after the PG event, i do not reccomend the top 96, but if your looking to just have some fun at a camp go ahead
