I was shocked this morning while reading the morning newspaper to see that a coach, Mike Coolbaugh of the Tulsa Drillers, was killed when struck in the head by a line drive during a Texas League game yesterday. The article indicated that Coach Coolbaugh was in the first base coaches box when struck either in the forehead or right side of his head by a hard hit foul ball. He fell to the ground immediately, unconcsious, and was given CPR while on the field. The report goes on to indicate that he was alive when loaded into the ambulance, but died on the way to the hospital.
This is very tragic and hopefully will serve as a reminder to everyone who goes onto the field without a helmet or glove, to be extra cautious when you're out there.
