Transfer from 4 year to 2 year degree within same school

Does anyone know if this is possible? If a NCAA Division 1 college has a 4 year degree program and a 2 year associates degree program in the same major. Is it possible to start in the 4 year degree program then transfer after the first year into the 2 year degree program, graduate with an associates degree and then have the option of moving on to a new school without having to sit out a year?

The potential problem with pursuing a 2 year associate degree when you are really interested in a bacholors degree is that the required courses maybe different. This is especially true at a JC i.e. for the associate degree in engineering you may be required to take some classes that don't transfer to 4 year programs because the objective of the 2 year degree is not the same......

Pete, it might be possible, but in essence the athlete would probably just be sitting out the year in the 2-year degree program, rather than their first year at a second Div. I program. This is because it is unlikely that such a college will offer an athletic program for both student-athletes seeking a four-year degree and for student-athletes seeking a two-year degree.
