Anybody know the transfer rule for NAIA? A former player of mine wants to transfer from one NAIA school to another that is a little closer to home. Is there 'sit out' a year rule?
I don't believe so. I believe NAIA has a 16 week residence rule, but not sure how they apply it. There is not the one year residence rule the NCAA schools have.
Okay, that's what the 16 weeks was. Knew I had read it once upon a time.
In NAIA though, the release process is different I believe. I believe the student athlete may contact the new institution. It is up to that coach to properly inform the old school/coach about the contact, but that is all that is necessary. Much different than the NCAA rule.
I think that NAIA allows multiple transfers among 4 year schools. A transfer player is exempt from the 16 week residency requirement if he has a cumulative 2.0 GPA, and a release from the immediately previous college.
