This is a story I've wanted to share for a long time.

Details have finally hit the news wires.

I want to make SHAUN PUGH famous so that no other family is taken for a ride!

I'll attempt to give you the short version.

The story starts this winter.  Pugh tracked me down via LinkedIn.  Hired me to film recruiting videos of his guys.  Being a little bit smaller team, I gave him a great price.  I was also able to schedule their filming session immediately following a filming of a really good team in the same facility.  Great deal for me right?!

1st words out of the facility owners mouth.... "Has he paid you yet?"   Thats not a good sign!

After filming, he said to "invoice him" and his accountant would handle payment.  Uh-oh!

After lots of back & forth he says he needs a contract.  I told him to write one.  I'll sign whatever.  I just need to be paid.  He has his lawyer write up a contract.

He has an accountant & lawyer on staff?!

I finally decide to email all the parents informing them that he'd hired me to do a job and that I did the work and had never been paid.  I call that stealing.  I warned them about the coach.  They defended him.

The coach ended up giving me a credit card and asked me to run a portion of the bill each month for the next 6 months.  I figured a little payment is better than nothing.

After 2 months his card was rejected.

I emailed the parents again.

The response was not a surprise...

He had stolen roughly $25,000 from them!

I was thinking, I hate to say this, but I told you so!

See the details of the SCAM here... http://6abc.com/news/youth-bas...-$22000-scam/801636/

If you are on Twitter, RT my tweet here... https://twitter.com/PlayInScho...s/613751890338258944

PGStaff - Ask whoever runs the @PerfectGameUSA twitter account to RT that tweet.  If you read the article, the team was on their way to Atlanta for a tournament when his scam unraveled.  I'm assuming they were headed your way.  Or so the parents thought.

I want this jerk to be famous!  I will never see my money.  But I hope this dude never works again.  Not paying me is 1 thing.  Stealing from families is another.  Help me spread the word on this guy.

There are so many great people in this industry.  This guy hurts all of us.  If we don't spread the word on this guy he could very easily head to another town and do it again.

I will never forget this.

Rich,

Over the years we have had many organizations fail to pay.  Not once have we ever publicized the fact.  We also heard that many organizations overcharged players for one thing or another.  We have also banned a few organizations over the years For good reason. However, not once have we actually publicized any of that.  We have also heard many complaints about various organizations.

Maybe I need to read the link you provided, to get a better understanding.

Wow, that sucks for those families. And for you.  But I have to admit I was a little amused reading the article and thinking about this guy heading toward the airport, and he knows there are no tickets for the flight, thinking oh, crap WTF do I do now??!!  Wait, I know!  I'll pretend to have a heart attack and get carted to the ER where I can make my escape!    What a freaking genius this guy is, as well as a scumbag.

This happened many years ago when the Florida Pokers was turned over to a local guy to run as the owner retired (but the company still his). The guy collected money, kind of similar situation.

He went to jail for embezzlement.

I can tell you another story that happened recently that would make your hair curl (if you had any) but its not appropriate to mention here.

From looking at the league website I'm guessing this is USSSA AA baseball. What in the hell was this AA town team doing headed for East Cobb? Upper Makefield is the kind of town where parents buy their kids roster spots then brag they play travel. This guy knew what he was doing. He's from NJ. But he saw a target victim across the river in Upper Makefield, PA.

As far as a parent picking up the tab for the trip. It's pocket change for most people in this town.

The new Lakepoint Facility is drawing teams from all over to play in PG events. I'm guessing a 14u AA team had just as much right there as the 11u teams from GA, MS, AL, TN, FL, MO, SC that were there in May....heck my kids 12u team played a TX team at Lakepoint last month, that couldn't have been a cheap trip!

Let's be a little nicer to the guy.  Think about the stress of setting all this up while knowing it wasn't going to happen. Surprised he didn't die on the bus.

The fact that the team made it all the way to the tournament is pretty incredible.

I am going to close this thread.  I don't believe our boards should be used to air grievances.  Find a local message board to share this stuff or write a letter to the local newspaper editor or contact the better business bureau and so forth.

Our boards are for helping kids get to the next level.  I don't think we should encourage these types of threads.  I am not disputing the righteousness of the OP here but I encourage other means to "out" these types of nefarious characters than our boards.  I understand if people disagree with my decision but that is what I get paid the big bucks for (zero bucks).
