Every one I talk to here says "if he does not cross the foul line, it is NOT a trip" Nothing I read states what constitutes a trip. The coach had already one visit, so I believe this was his way of talking strategy without taking the pitcher out. BR rules that a pitcher must be removed after two visits to the same pitcher in the same innings.

Oregonump was describing the high school rule, you appear to be asking about the pro rule.

The pro rules allows one free visit to the pitcher, specifically. Upon the second visit, the pitcher must be removed.

8.06 comment adds: "If the manager or coach goes to the catcher or infielder and that player then goes to the mound or the pitcher comes to him at his position before there is an intervening play, that will be the same as the manager or coach going to the mound."
