Tournament yesterday, NCAA rules.

Runners on 1st (R1) and 2nd (R2). 1 out.

Both runners attempt steal. R2 stops halfway, R1 gets to 2nd and is standing on it. They chase R2 back to 2nd, R1 steps off just before that. They tag R2 but he is standing on 2nd. R1, who had stepped off and all fielders where in that area for the rundown, runs back to 1st.

The call is "All Safe". What is correct? They were NOT on 2nd at the same time...but I don't think the call was correct.

What is the correct call? Would FED or OBR be any different?

Of course I send an assistance out on the field, while the men in blue try to figure it out, and of course the assistant eventually gets tossed
which creates more chaos. Smile

most trained umpires do not talk to assistants........and certainly dont argue with them,...........per NFHS rules only head coaches address umpires in rules discussions........

there is no sense in sacrificing an assistant and not get any answers........
