I wanted to know how often do little league teams practice and how long? 5 days a week or 6 days a week ? 2 and a half hours a day? And what kind of regime?

just curious. Thanks for the help.

Last year we practiced 5 to 6 days a week, about 2 hours per day. We typically rotated around with 5 or 6 players doing infield and situations and the rest doing hitting stations, bullpens and some specific fielding skill stations. As we got closer to the tournament we did more "fun" type stuff such as over the line toward the end of practice and also worked in a few intrasquad games.

This year with the 13yo we are going 4 to 5 days a week just because of the limits we have on field time. On the other hand we are playing Pony this year so we can play scrimmages and warm-up tournaments to help get ready, so we've played 3 games already and have at least one more to go in the tournament we're in now.

CADad, so how goes your prelim tourney's? Our 14's have had 9 games they are 7-2. Our 8's have played 4 (2-1-1) ties being allowed in pool play. Best of success come July when they move to the PONY Tourney's! I look forward to meeting you if we get the chance.

Our 14's Practice 4 days a week, 3 two hour practices of Defense combined with some hitting and 1 day of just hitting.

The 8' do 3 days a week, 2 days of D" + some hitting and 1 day of hitting.

The pitchers have bull pen sessions combined with PFP for 30 minutes before the rest of the team gets there.
HCD,
Wow! You got started early. Our Pony 14 team is 2-0 in pool play. Our Pony 13A team is 1-0 in pool play and plays a tough team tonight. Our Pony 13B team is 1-1 in pool play and the 3rd seed in our 5 team bracket. The team we lost to ended up being the #2 seed from our bracket because they gave up too many runs to us. We'll play the 2 seed from the other bracket on Sunday. That could easily end up being our A team. They'll probably end up being the 1 or the 3 seeds from their bracket though so we wouldn't meet them until the finals.

So far I haven't been impressed with the level of competition in the Pony13 tournament. I went into the tournament thinking that we'd get beaten by all but the weakest A teams. So far it looks like we're right up there with anyone except our A team.
One year I kind of got drafted to do the 9-10 All Star team for LL. We actually played AAU and LL at the same time but when the playoffs for 9-10 LL came around everyone wanted to play LL to try and win the State title. What I did was spend the first week and did it like camp. We taught hitting fundementals. Fielding fundementals and baserunning cut offs , posistion play such as catching , pitching mechanics, infield play and of play. The whole week was dedicated to teaching everyone fundementals and the game. Then after the first week of practice (camp) we moved on to team practices working on 1st and thirds bunt d and bunt o cut offs etc. It worked well for us we won the state. Just an idea.

TR you hit it right on the head, the group of 8's we have are very bright. We are able to work on the wider scope of fundamentals like, cut offs running bases and sliding. LOL Sliding practice is their favorite they have a reason to get as dirty as possible, the mom's get a little upset but quickly move on once they see their sons grin from ear to ear. One thing we repeat to them is back each other up. Always help your team mate be the best player he can be, make the routine play and don't worry too much about the base hit that was just out of your reach. As many may remember at that age the team that can make the most routine plays, pitch well and not throw the ball around does very well.

Coach May, we are mirroring that very same idea. PONY 8U are not allowed to bunt so that is the only difference. We figure if we don't beat ourselves we will be tough to beat.
Our Dixie Majors All Star team begins with 3 3-man groups and one 4-man group working through four hitting stations: Tee, Soft-toss, Bunting and Cage. The cage takes the longest before rotating. We have a couple of college pitchers helping us. They throw around 70mph and mix in a few CB's and CU's.

We then work on middle infield with a 3B, 2B and SS simulating double-plays and transfers. We have the rest in the outfield taking fly balls and hitting cut-offs. We rotate groups of infielders and finish the infield work with the 1B's taking grounders. After the isolated infield and outfield work we do regular infield and out field drills. We work fundamentals.

We have only had a few practices and we played our first practice game last night so the kids are still trying for the starting positions.

We have practices and/or practice games scheduled for every day until the Sub-district Tournament in July.
