High school games kick off today. Son playing first varsity game so we are all excited. So, first on Monday we get around 4 inches of snow. And the say a chance of rain by Friday. But a nice warming trend and 83 degrees yesterday, the fields are all playable. So we watch the weather this morning and they say no rain until Saturday night. Great, we will get all three games in this weekend. Well, my wife just called and said it is pouring down rain by the high school. So much for baseball this weekend.

We live in Indiana. Learned son's 1st HS season what the essentials were to weathering the unpredictable Indiana HS baseball season.

Shorts & T-Shirt, Sunscreen, Ball Hat for my balding head, umbrella, light jacket or sweatshirt, long pants or sweatpants, heavier jacket, warmer coat, carhart heavy coat, carhart bib overalls, stocking cap & gloves.

All of which could be used within the same week in the early season.
We went to play our first HS game yesterday. Weather had been calling for 40 degrees and spotty rain showers developing into thunderstorms later. So, we went to game in the neighboring city. It's cold. I call my wife and tell ehr to brink the winter clothing cause it's gonna be miserable. So, right at game time it starts to snow- it's pretty cold- about 30 degrees and blowing 25 mph. We get through the top half of the inning and things are going as usual in Idaho- snow, wind and everyone bundled up in heavy winter coats. By the bottom half of the 1st inning it has started snowing so bad that you can no longer see brown dirt on the infield- it has been layered all white! I look down at the coach and he has 1/2 inch of snow plastered to the side of his body and he is frozen still not moving at all- looks like a snowman at this point!

So, after a few more batters the umpires, who are wearing ski masks and winter parkas and gloves finally call a stop in play. Needless to say, the snow never stopped and the game was cancelled. Yes, typical "winter" baseball in Idaho!
