Agree, beautiful campus. Was part of UVA until early '70s, so similar architecture, with plenty of new buildings and dorms. Fredericksburg, now part of the east coast megalopolis, is 1 hr from DC and 1 hr from Richmond...without traffic. Academics are very good, behind UVA and W&M for instate schools. (Really can't compare to VT since UMW is liberal arts.) When you visit, Carl's ice cream is a must, now a National Historic Landmark (but closed mid-Nov through March?) If you go to the "find" button on the tool bar, search "Mary Washington" under this topic, there are other discussions worth reading. Good male/female student ratio for baseball players.
Great school and campus. So far, my son has enjoyed his time there. He has interacted with professors (no grad students teaching courses) more than he ever did in high school. Would caution about the number of players trying out. 3 years ago there were only 35-40 players in fall workouts. The past 2 years there has been over 65. Not all of the 65 were recruited - some were transfers, some just coming out, some were recruited. Other caution is the head coach is very old school.
