My son is going to be attending the Young-Harris showcase next week. Going off of the list of last year attendees, he researched the schools and sent letters to the coaches of schools that carried his major to introduce himself to them. UVA was one of them. He enclosed his 2008 stats and bio. UVA head coach sent him an email responding to his letter and detailing their program and recruiting format. He then got an email form the recruiting coord about their upcoming prospect camps. My son replied to both that he was looking forward to meeting them in GA and he would see about attending one of the camps. The coord replied back that they wouldn't be at the GA showcase due to team practice. What I would like to know is has anyone been to their prospect camps and how much you know about the program at UVA? Seems like a good program. Head coach stated that they recruit 8 players per year on partial scholly's and if you look at the roster, his class breakdown is pretty much balanced that way. Any feedback would be helpful. I am getting a little taxed at the travelling/showcase money right now. Don't want to spend money on a bad investment if you know what I mean.

UVA is clearly a top school in the U.S. that plays in a top baseball conference. UVA's program is top-quality with beautiful facilities in a beautiful place. If your son is both a baseball and academic standout, he'd have a chance to compete for a spot in a premier program.

UVA runs a ton of camps and they are big moneymakers (for all sports). A lot of kids from No. Va. attend these camps and I have heard nothing but good things about them. But yes, they are moneymaking propopsitions.

Attending a school's camp is one of the best ways to sell yourself as a good fit for the program. Yes, it costs a bunch of money if you try to do all the showcases, camps, clinics, and travel ball--but that is the price of exposure and opportunity for most kids.
