Mr. Frazier,

Since you don't mind advertising/recruiting on the site I don't mind asking questions. First let me say the Washington DC Metro area needs a high level summer team or two to help the local kids get "national" exposure.

That, said if you're going to have teams why not play them nationally. Assuming you want the top players in the area (and maybe that's a bad assumption) you can only get them by going to the East Cobb tourney's and other "High competition" events.

Again no offense young man you were a nice player at Riverdale Baptist when they were a national type power, and had a good career at Maryland. Now I appreciate your starting a baseball career. But the niche you're seeking to fill could be much more lucrative if you followed the model used by the top National HS programs like East Cobb, the Dirtbags in NC, etc.

No offense but the tournies your playing are local and won't get as many of the tip top kids, the pro type kids as it could. Washington metro area is larger than Atlanta and I've got to believe just a bountiful, but undeveloped. Look at the local talent that goes to the Dirtbags that would come to a local team if it was "National" in exposure.

Think big - build it and they will come. Not only that but the national exposure will increase youth interest in baseball and in ten years this area will sprout double the number of athletes.

Now please pardon me while I CAREFULLY step down from my soapbox!
Mr. Mom,

I appreciate your comments and insight. You are correct when you say that we need high level summer teams to help area ballplayers receive "national" exposure.

That being said, this is our first year establishing competitive summer teams for the U16 and U18 age divisions. We feel like the best way to build a top-notch program is to build from the ground up. Our long-term goal is to have a national-level summer baseball program that attracts and showcases the best ballplayers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The nationally-recognized programs you mentioned (such as Riverdale Baptist and East Cobb) have taken numerous years of hard-work, dedication, and commitment to establish and build. These programs were not "overnight" success stories. Coaches and others involved had a commitment to excellence that was built through relationships with parents, ballplayers, and numerous other baseball people. I think it is unfair to assume that one can just "jump into" establishing a national-level summer team program.

Our schedule for the summer of 2007, our first year, is designed to "get our feet wet" as an organization. In the near future, when we have further earned and gained the respect of local ballplayers, we will look to take our schedule to a national scale. This process will take time.

Mr Frazier,
Good luck to you in the Md. Baseball Academy. People like you are greatly needed in this area. That said... IMO you won't draw any "elite" players with that scedule. At least not from outside your immediate area. I saw this post & thought of some 16U players in our area, but they wouldn't commit without at least one "big" tourney. The NVTBL I don't think will challenge any "elite" players. It will be more like HSBall. I don't know but I assume it is costly as well. The good players are ready for more after the HS season. Don't sell yourself short. You won't build any national connections staying home(or get any national type players). Good luck!
