Some of this transfer stuff will be quashed after this year. The Hallberg scenario affected many schools over the past several years and not just UIC. Under the old transfer rules (which this will be the last year of), a player could transfer one time without having to sit out a year. Thus, it had been common for players like Hallberg to be "recruited" to other schools while playing in the summer leagues such as the Cape. The way I heard it, a summer teammate encouraged Hallberg to consider transferring to FSU while they were at the Cape. Another similar transfer happened last year when Matt Mangini transferred from NC State to Oklahoma State for example. Those type of transfers will become dinosaurs after the new rules take effect in 2008 imho.
I see this as a big compliment to the UIC Coach and Program. I'm sure they don't want to look at it that way, but consider that a Mid-Major like UIC was able to recruit players who have proven they can play on the level of the big boys. Coach must be pretty good at evaluating talent that the big boys didn't want until they showed what they could do later.

It's too bad they haven't shown loyalty to the guy who gave them a shot.

JMHO
I certainly didn't mean to start this thread for the idea of it to turn on the players or the school in a negative light. As a former player and alum of UIC I was just curious if anyone had any feedback on way these quality players were leaving. The conference, the weather, etc. The program has certainly made great strides over the years with it's schedule, field, etc and it's one of the few Illinois schools that has made it to the NCAA tourney the past few years. This certainly has to be a positive for a recruit to consider.
