UMass is one of my favorite schools. Every time I go to see my daughter (like today) I have a great time.
Coach Stone is a great guy. One who looks you directly in the eyes when he speaks to you. They have had some gresat years and struggled the last few. Carl Pavone (Yankees) is an alum and in the 2005 draft they had a first rounder.
The only other on the staff I know is Mike Sweeney who also Manages in the NECBL during the summer. Nice people...Very knowledgeable.
You need to be very careful when deciding to attend U-Mass; they tend to over recruit. I know that last fall he had between 10-12 players that he recruited (asked to attend U-Mass and play for him) with no spots for. Most were asked to red shirt or just cut after 7 days! I know that this was not a one time thing and has happen in past years also. Most schools will over recruit some but not to that extent.

You are correct that U-Mass is not fully funded. A lot of players are not on scholarship at U-Mass. But being at state school with no scholarship is still a better deal then most private schools with a 30-50% scholarship. In a program such as U-Mass a lot of the players are not on scholarship but are still "recruited" asked to attend U-Mass and be part of the team. Understanding that there are no guarantees, but when you have 25 returning players and ask 16 transfer and freshman to come join your team and give them 7 days before you cut it to 30. Coaches do invite players to come in the fall to tryout for the team, but usually let them know thats what it is. Not tell them I don’t have scholarship money for you, but I would like you to attend my school and play for me next season.
