You are correct that U-Mass is not fully funded. A lot of players are not on scholarship at U-Mass. But being at state school with no scholarship is still a better deal then most private schools with a 30-50% scholarship. In a program such as U-Mass a lot of the players are not on scholarship but are still "recruited" asked to attend U-Mass and be part of the team. Understanding that there are no guarantees, but when you have 25 returning players and ask 16 transfer and freshman to come join your team and give them 7 days before you cut it to 30. Coaches do invite players to come in the fall to tryout for the team, but usually let them know thats what it is. Not tell them I don’t have scholarship money for you, but I would like you to attend my school and play for me next season.
