Fed rules. HS kids
r1 attempting to steal. Catcher begins to throw and during his arm circle hits the PU with his hand and doesn't throw. Umpires discuss and send runner back to 1B. They told me an umpire can not interfere with a play that gives one team an advantage. I am looking for this rule reference and can't find it. Looking for help. Thanks

I agree with Dash and PIAA, it is straight umpire's interference. What the umpire did was mix two rules. Umpipre interference in this case kills the ball and runners return to their TOP location. What the umpire was talking about is the umpire can't make a ruling that puts the runner in jeobardy. Ball is fielded by F3 who tags first and then throws to second. The F6 and umpire both braincramp thinking it is still a force, F6 touches the bag and the umpire calls the runner out. As the runner starts to walk off the field the OM yells that it wasn't a force and needed to be tagged. F6 runs over and tags the runner, now twenty feet from the bag. Because the umpire incorrectly called the runner out he is placed on second.

Nothing. Play on.

agreed with Matt...this is not interference and there is no call.......although an umpire should be trained to read off of the catchers movements and attempt to clear the catcher.... yet there will still be times when the umpire will occupy a space that the catcher needs to get to or go through......the umpire can not disapear...

Play on....run scores....
