Anyone have knowledge about the school, academics and baseball program?
Listed in the top 5 public Liberal Arts colleges in the country. High Academics (average GPA of incoming freshman last year was 3.9). In a beautiful area of NC mountains while also having a really cool downtown(city). It is a very artsy/progressive school and the student body reflects this. No football team but the recent success of the basketball team (made it into NCAA brackets this year!) has helped drive some school spirit. Just opened a beautiful new million dollar student health center right behind the baseball field.
I've sent you a PM. My son is on the baseball team. It is indeed a team on the rise. They beat Coastal Carolina, the conference leader not once but twice this year, and just had a very respectable showing against UNC last night holding the game to a tie into the 7th inning. Games they've lost to other leading teams were often by just one or two runs. This year they did not play as many games in the minor league stadium due to scheduling conflicts with the Asheville tourists.
Be prepared to be a student. Coach Smith recruits high GPA's and demands excellence off the field as well with mandatory study halls and sit downs regarding grades. This past fall, the baseball team had the highest number of students in the 3.0 club. Nineteen players had a GPA of 3.0 or higher!
