Anyone have knowledge about the school, academics and baseball program?

Program on the rise. They play a good schedule, play most of their games in a minor league park and also have a field on campus. Liberal arts school and a hilly campus in beautiful Asheville,NC. Members of the Big South Conference. Coach Smith is a legendary NC high school coach and his son Ken was a very good college player and he's out recruiting good players for the program.

Listed in the top 5 public Liberal Arts colleges in the country. High Academics (average GPA of incoming freshman last year was 3.9). In a beautiful area of NC mountains while also having a really cool downtown(city). It is a very artsy/progressive school and the student body reflects this. No football team but the recent success of the basketball team (made it into NCAA brackets this year!) has helped drive some school spirit. Just opened a beautiful new million dollar student health center right behind the baseball field.

I've sent you a PM. My son is on the baseball team. It is indeed a team on the rise. They beat Coastal Carolina, the conference leader not once but twice this year, and just had a very respectable showing against UNC last night holding the game to a tie into the 7th inning. Games they've lost to other leading teams were often by just one or two runs. This year they did not play as many games in the minor league stadium due to scheduling conflicts with the Asheville tourists.

Be prepared to be a student. Coach Smith recruits high GPA's and demands excellence off the field as well with mandatory study halls and sit downs regarding grades. This past fall, the baseball team had the highest number of students in the 3.0 club. Nineteen players had a GPA of 3.0 or higher!

Lefty- 19 players is impressive, especially considering that there is no sport that misses more class than a Division I baseball program. I believe that is partially a testament to the coaching staff...recognizing work ethic in recruiting and instilling it in his players throughout their career.

Not sure how things went for the Spring with the team, but LSASon got a 3.42. Hopefully the other guys did just as well. Coach sent the parents a note which told us that typically the guys do even better in the Spring because they are forced to be more diligent, prioritize, etc. Getting to know the other players, it does seem maturity and self-discipline were key factors in recruiting. These are not boys...they are young men capable of living on their own.
