My son has attended the pitchers catchers camp the last three years. It is outstanding. The coaches teach and instruct the entire time. There is no down time, the kids are kept busy the entire day. Pitchers get instruction on pitching mechanics and the mental aspects of the game. Also tips on training and taking care of the arm are given. Catchers drill drill drill. Tons of reps on all aspects of catching. I highly recommend this camp for HS players and kids coming into HS. But be prepared to work for two days. This is not a chill out camp. It is for the kids that want to work and learn. Also there are always some current UNC players that work the camp. They are outstanding with the kids and give them some outstanding tips and advice.
Coach May,

I've been toying with sending my son to the UNC Camp, or possibly the Clemson camp, which is the weekend before. My question is how rigorous these camps are in terms of the amount of throwing. My son had a UCL strain during the summer and on the doctor's recommendation he is taking the fall off. However, he is doing lots of weight training, running and a little light throwing. He normally starts back throwing seriously in late November, which would give him 2 to 3 weeks to start building up his long toss distance.

Do they typically ask the kids to max out at these camps? Or do they consider that this is early pre-season for some?

I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have.
